Polarized sunglasses are a great protection for your eyes to cover from the sun. The sun has damaging UV rays that can cause pingueculae and retinal damage. Ultraviolet rays or UV are past the violet protion of the visible light spectrum. There is 3 types of UV light. UVA, UVB and UVC.
Many people have a misconception of UV and how it affects your eyes.They believe that only on a very sunny day you can get your eyes damaged. The truth is UV light can go thru clouds and is usually stronger between 11 am and 3 pm. Additionally Glare can be a trouble factor as well, if you are around water , sand and/or snow make sure to protect your eyes with polarized sunglasses.
